Recently, I got the chance to be an ambassador for MyMakeupBrushSet, an online site selling makeup brushes and other beauty tools! They sent me a set of Oval Brushes to try, which I was ecstatic about since I’ve been wanting some ever since they started popping up on Instagram. As soon as I received them, I removed every trace of makeup just to reapply with these brushes. After all, it’s not an honest review if you don’t try the product first, right?
The brushes arrived in this standard drawstring bag, and each brush was individually placed in a plastic wrapper, so the bristles were very neat when they arrived.
They also included a card containing a coupon code for another purchase. (Which, because I’m just so gracious, I will share with you. ;D )
I am not sure which of the brush sets I received, since it does not seem to be listed on the site. The silver brush set listed seems to be more of a matte set, whereas these are not. Either way, all the brushes are very full and fluffy, with the exception of one. As you can see, the edge around the third brush looks like it is missing bristles. I thought maybe it was just condensed from being in the package, but 2 weeks and 2 brush washings later, nothing has changed. This doesn’t necessarily bother me, but it might bother other people.
This is from when I was testing the brushes on the ease of blending and application of different products. I have to say, I’m pleasantly surprised! I knew the brushes were fluffy, but I was weary on how they’d blend thicker products, like my Too Faced Melted lipsticks or my Lancôme medium-heavy cover foundation. To my delight, they blended quite smoothly! My foundation wasn’t cakey, and my concealer barely creased like it does with my other brushes. The longer, thinner brushes made contouring extremely easy, something I’d never been able to accomplish before. You just have the gently wipe the tops of the brushes off when you’re done, or else the remaining product will harden on the surface.
Though the handles on these brushes may look like they’re made from metal in the pictures, they’re actually made of plastic. Because of that, they do have the tendency to bend. This means if you’re a rougher blender or have a heavy hand, this probably isn’t the brush set for you. I also recommend, if you apply or dot liquid products on your face with your fingers before blending, that you wipe your fingers with a towel before picking up a brush, since the liquid products will smudge and leave finger prints on the back of the brush.
Overall, I do enjoy using these brushes. They blend out my foundation better than my Real Techniques foundation brush, and they’re full and fluffy. Besides the one brush that is lacking a few bristles, and the fact that they do bend if you use too much pressure, there really isn’t anything wrong with these brushes! If I were to buy another set of brushes from MyMakeupBrushSet, (because who doesn’t need MORE brushes…) I would definitely have to go for these beauties.
Thank you to the team at MMBS for sending me the brushes and giving me the chance to work with you! It was a real pleasure.
