Ok ok, so I know I promised I was going to blog more like…2 months ago. And I know I’m going to make the same promise again, only this time I’m going to keep it! Hopefully…
Ok so as always, a quick run down of what you’ve missed if you aren’t besties with me over on the ‘Gram. For starters, I chopped my hair off, rockin’ the pixie cut we all knew would eventually take place. Then I got accepted into my top college – I’ll be a DePauw Tiger by August! On the 24th, I turned 18! Not that it feels any different than 17, but I feel it should still be said. And finally, like everyone else, I’m already prepping for 2018. This year though, I’ve decided I’m not making a list of resolutions, because eventually, they just feel like a chore – and I never actually accomplish any of them. Instead, I’m calling them “GBGs” or “Girl Boss Goals” because anything “Girl Boss” hypes me up. That might have something to do with Elle Woods being the ultra-feminine, feminist superhero of my childhood. (And still today!) So, I’m officially dubbing 2018 “Year of the Girl Boss!” My mom already has me beat business wise. Last year, she launched Created For a Cure, an etsy shop where she sells custom wrap bracelets to benefit those she loves working with most – cancer patients.
Even though ‘Millennial Pink’ isn’t 2018’s official Color of the Year, I have no urge to ditch it completely. In fact, I’ve probably added more pink to my wardrobe than ever before. My favorite pink item in my wardrobe is the Elle Woods Vibes t-shirt from Jadelynn Brooke! There’s something about the color that’s just so empowering for me. Now, if you knew me back in middle school, you’ll know this was the opposite of true. This is because I, like many other girls my age, went through a stage best summarized as, “I hate pink and anything remotely feminine.” This lasted until approximately 8th grade, before I finally gave in. As to why this stage happened, I still have no clue. At this point it’s rare you’ll ever not see me in the color. I even had pink hair for quite a while! I think 2018 is the year we embrace the Elle Woods vibes!
Another part of 2018 to be excited for is experimenting with your fashion style. Before this year, I was never one to gravitate towards prints. Then I walked into Lilly Pulitzer and everything changed, haha! Personally, I’m excited to try new prints and color combos. I want to work more fun prints, and classic elegance into my wardrobe. Things that will last me for years at a time. Make 2018 your year of #NoRegrets! Try ruffles, or floral, or a monochromatic color scheme. Hey, you could even 180 your typical style for a day, nothing is off limits!
In 2018 I’m trying to be more organized, by using a planner or journal to keep track of things. This super cute planner from Too Faced is just what I need to get started! It contains a monthly planner, which I personally find easier to use than a weekly planner, because it gives a more broad sense of what to expect for the month. The planner and case came with the eyeshadow palette, all bundled together into the Boss Lady Beauty Agenda! I love the palette as much as I do the planner, and haven’t stopped creating looks since I received it for Christmas! I particularly love the quote on the front – it’s motivating in its own adorable way! Planners are a great way to keep every aspect of your life organized, from tracking water intake, to planning future appointments.
Pull It All Together…
So we have the basis of the Girl Boss vibes, now how do we incorporate them further? Personally, I love using social media to stay motivated! There are so many girls with gorgeous themes to keep your spirits lifted through the day, no matter what vibe you’re going for.
For those who ♥ a pretty feed…
BossBabe.Inc…for motivational quotes and female empowerment on the daily. On my worst days, I would scroll through the feed just as an attempt to motivate myself to get out of bed. On my best days, I scroll through while I drink my morning tea, thinking of all the ways I can accomplish something that day.
Victoria Suzanne…for a sugar-sweet, elegant theme, and adorable feminism at its finest. If you’ve ever wanted to see a badass in a pink dress, she’s your girl. She’s been through so much and has always kept her head high, which is such an admirable quality. Victoria also runs America’s cutest fashion blog – Parfait Doll – which I’ve been reading since I was about 12 years old, and it just keeps getting better.
Lonestar Southern….Kate runs the rather popular fashion blog Lonestar Southern, as well as the sister Youtube channel. Kate has such a a classic, elegant style fun of fun twists. She’s so upbeat, positive, and overall charming.
For those who are blogaholics…
J’adore Lexie Couture…Super cute, super pink, and super glam. Lexie is the poster girl of tuelle skirts, glitter, and pearls. If I could style my house like Lexie styles her life, it would be PERFECT.
Classy Girls Wear Pearls…Sarah runs such a beautiful blog! Her style, her home, and her family are the epitome of class. If you love a mix of classic British and preppy American style, Sarah’s blog is for you.
Camille Styles…A step away from your strictly fashion or strictly beauty blogs, Camille runs a fun, modern lifestyle blog. She shares everything from room decor to fitness tips to DIYs. I love scrolling through her blog when I need a break from niche-oriented blogs, and Camille’s seems much more inviting than your normal sites like PopSugar or Bustle. (Though I do still love them!)
For those who prefer to binge watch…
Amber Scholl…I’ve never followed a girl more inspiring. This is the girl you need if you need a pick-me-up after a bad year. I was at one of the low points in my life when I subscribed. Her happy-go-lucky personality and confidence can turn my day around in an instant. Her 1,000,000 Thank You video never fails to make me cry.
Freddy My Love…I love her fashion videos. Her channel is the embodiment of a Kate Spade/Ted Baker love child. There’s something so refreshing about her simple, youthful makeup look and classic girly-girl style!
TayTay…You didn’t think I’d forgotten Taylor did you? Taylor has been a huge inspiration to better myself both mentality and physical health wise. If you haven’t watched one of her videos, whether that be a vlog or a workout, you need to ASAP. She gives fantastic advice, and has so much fun with everything she does.
All in all, I have such high hopes for 2018, not just for myself, but for all of us. My best friends are happier than I’ve ever seen them, we had snow for New Years, I’ve found some of the best future roomates I could ask for, and so much more. 2018 will be full of adventure, memories, highs, and lows, but in the end, it will all be worth it. I can’t wait to see what it brings for us. Happy New Year babes.
All my love,
